Cedar Lodge now has exclusive heli-hiking concessions to operate personally guided, helicopter accessed hiking adventures in the majestic valleys and rainforests of Mount Aspiring National Park. You'll savor the best of New Zealand's South Island.

Imagine waking each day to a hearty home cooked breakfast, and right from the Cedar Lodge helipad, climb aboard a helicopter operated by Fox Franz Heliservices from their bases at Makarora or Haast.

We’ll take you on a spectacular flight through soaring mountain passes, over ancient cascading glaciers, above pastoral river valleys and frozen mountain lakes.

You'll enjoy lunch in a hanging valley under the shadow of towering mountain peaks, surrounded by native alpine flowers. And you will learn all there is to know about the geography of the area, its history, the fauna and flora, the wildlife including many birds native only to New Zealand.

At the end of the day, your chariot (in the form of a chopper) arrives to whisk you back to the comforts of Cedar Lodge, where you'll enjoy a hot shower and then sit down to a gourmet dinner with your fellow guests to discuss the day's events.

Cedar Lodge’s heli-hiking programs are designed with your maximum enjoyment in mind and we will take you to places where few have ever been lucky enough to see or set foot.

Because of the flexibility and accessibility the helicopter affords us, we offer a multitude of heli-hiking options that suit all ages and levels of fitness.

The heli-hiking season is from November to April - months where the weather is traditionally warmest and most settled. If you are planning a fly-fishing trip to Cedar Lodge and have a non-fishing spouse or friend accompanying you, heli-hiking provides the perfect option for maximizing your stay.
